Cooking for Dummies: French toast and thesis.

It’s amazing how you can find EVERYTHING through Google! I haven’t had normal sleep since last weekend because I’ve been working on my 2nd thesis draft. Working on something non-stop gets pretty tiring so I decided to take a break and prepare myself some easy-cook breakfast. WikiHow (see here) taught me how to make my own French Toast!

Bread toasted in eggs, vanilla, a pinch of cinnamon, and milk! Topped with syrup and butter, and voila! Freeeeench toast!

Starting my day with mechanical editing while whispering a mantra in my mind, “I am the master of my lazy ass… I am the master of my lazy ass… I am the master of my…” Lol!

Adding cinnamon to morning coffee has always been my mom’s thing. Tried it today and it is not bad! The best thing about this is I still got cinnamon scent on my hands and I’ve been sneak-sniffing it from time to time — like a kid on crack. Hah!

CAUGHT. Shameful proof of my thesis exploits. The 2 cups were from last night. Lol.

I still cannot get over the fact that I had Google/WikiHow walk me through making French Toast! Not to mention I didn’t burn anything! Hmmm.. This changes a lot of things around here… Ha ha!

Sunday night bliss.

Sunday dinners at home have always been special for my family and I. The most recent one however was a little more special because: a) kuya (older brother in Filipino) cooked us pasta, I cooked the noodles ha ha; b) it’s been a while since we had our youngest brother home; and c) our neighbors randomly lit up the night sky with fireworks that were visible straight from our dining area window lol. Take your pick.

We’re very lucky to have a constant supply of fresh vegetables and herbs straight from the farm or from right across our lawn, where mom has been spending most of her time tending her recently developed herbal garden. The one above are fresh french string beans, which to my surprise, was so good in olive oil and garlic! Mom must’ve been so proud I put some on my pasta — I ate them don’t worry lol.

I would tell you what my brother put in there had I taken down notes. But I’m certain there were capers and olives in it, since I dreaded the capers. Ha ha. The sauce was delish though. He DEFINITELY nailed it! (Note: first time I did not overcook the pasta noodles! Al dente, mmhm! Somebody should hand me a medal for this. Seriously)

Mom and dad, the cutest couple I know. Especially when they’re half tipsy with wine. ;)

After dinner, my older brother, older sister, and I kicked it just like old times. My brother’s voice section is bass, my sister the soprano, and I the alto. The three of us belong in the same choir so it has always been handy to review our voice parts with each other, almost completing the vocal arrangement of a piece. :) (Click here to listen to the piece performed by the Philippine Madrigal Singers)

It’s been a while since I last saw my dad that relaxed — don’t get deceived by his permanent scowl ha ha. He kept asking us to sing and when we did, he listened to us intently even though we were unsure of some of our parts.

It’s always good to be home, isn’t it? :)
