Space and storage.

Home alone on a friday night, no one to cook for, and in dire need of some artistic inspiration. That was the state I was in that led me to my bedroom to change something. Anything. Yes, this is basically what happens when you stare at something long enough.

I realized there was so much going on in my floor space (which isn’t much to begin with). I wanted to make my room look and feel more spacious so I decided to push all my furniture to the walls. In the middle of rearranging all those wood work, I found that there wasn’t enough wall area to fit all of them at, and there’s no way I’m gonna allow an obstruction in the middle of the space I wanted to create. So I had to make a cut throat decision. One of these furniture had to go.

Yup, the book shelf had to go.  All the other furniture were indispensable to me: my desk, my annoyingly wide assed dresser, my side table (for storage), my grand mother’s antique Narra chair, and of course my bed. This left my books practically homeless, which was a very pitiful sight. I told my dad that since I had so much space on my walls, I could maybe have wall shelves installed. He agreed to it — since he offered to take the book shelf from me. But for the meantime, I still had to come up with something for my books.

Storage solution!

What I found were these “salvaged” wooden drawers dumped in a corner of our clean kitchen. I reckon these were remnants of one of the old study desks we used to have. So I got them, dusted them, and without an idea of what to do with them, brought them into my room. What happened was this:

Under my desk: one drawer, I placed upright and the other flat on the floor. Instant storage solution for my books! I think this is my most favorite part of my room now. I arranged a few more books on the table surface so they won't be "dumped" in just one place. lol.

Then I had my wide assed dresser placed right between my windows. Since I didn’t want all my furniture flat on my walls, I had it slanted on the corner just beside my desk. Below it, I laid out the collages I used to have on my walls. I haven’t figured out whether I’m going to rehang them or not. But for the meantime, they’re good right where I put them.

This has the girliest feel in my room. Lol.

This is what happened to the rest:

My grandma's chair is a furniture treasure. Glad to have it! I added the masks on the purple wall for one final touch.

It was an overall successful turn about for my room. Since I’ll be leaving it for the university in a matter of days, giving it this special attention was so worth it! Happy about my storage solution, the space I created, and the little details I added to my walls. One thing’s for sure: I’ll be able to sleep well tonight. Ciao!
